There are a number of Key West beaches that you may want to explore on your next vacation in Key West. The Key West beaches are by no means comparable to the wide expansive white sand beaches like those found in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Key West beaches do however have something I would consider even better. A Key West beach will come with the warmest average temperatures to be found in the continental U.S. Key West has never even had a documented frost, ever!!

FORT ZACHARY TAYLOR
Key Wests Fort Taylor beach is usually considered the 2nd best option in the Key West area.
This

is located at the Historic Fort Zachary Taylor State Park facility. They charge a small admission fee of $6 per car or $2 per person to access the beach and are open from 8:00 AM until sundown. They have some barbeque grills, picnic tables and shady areas to get out of the Florida sun. They also feature showers and a small rental business /gift shop that has a lounge area and supplies beach accessories, snacks and refreshments. Restrooms are located on the property and you can access the beach through the Truman Annex.SMATHERS BEACH

is the biggest and most popular beach location in Key West, Smathers.
This Key West location is quite long and is framed by
numerous palm trees and features a wide expanse of white
sand.
There are many rental huts populating
the waterfront area that provide rentals for just about
any water activity you can think of. There are
also vendors that supply a wide selection of
food and beverages with places to rest and get
out of the hot sun. Smathers is great for kids
since you can wade out a long distance without going over their head and their isn't an undertow
to worry about. There is excellent parking, nice rest rooms, bike trails, picnic benches, and always some volleyball action going on. Smathers is located off of south Roosevelt Blvd. and of course is just steps away from our

.DOG BEACH
This Key West beach is Not considered one of the better locations in the Key West area, the aptly named Dog Beach is one of the favorites for locals to exercise their best friend with four legs. The waterfront area is a little rugged which means it won't be too crowded (your pooch won't care). There are no businesses or amenities located at this more remote Key West beach. The location is at Waddel and Vernon Street.
SOUTH BEACH
Key West's South beach is a nice location that is somewhat popular with the local population and is located in close proximity to some area restaurants. It's a decent area for kids but a huge negative is the fact they have no rest rooms on site or vendor rental businesses. This Key West beach is located at the Southern end of Duvall Street on the Atlantic Ocean, just a short walk from our

The sand at this Key West beach is somewhat course and there is more aquatic plant life than some of the other locations have, but all in all it's not a bad option. You have a short jaunt to get to the rest rooms but at least they have them, and it has wheel chair access with a some nice picnic areas. Rest beach is just a short stroll down the ocean from our

if you decide to visit.
HIGG'S BEACH
Key West's Higg's Beach is not considered as one of the better areas for swimming but none the less it is one of the more favored spots for the local crowd. (probably because it's usually not too crowded)
Higgs does have a nice caribbean setting with a fairly large sandy area and is an adequate facility for amenities. It has rental places for water activities, beach chairs, a pier, and rest rooms. There is also a restaurant and some picnic areas available. Higgs is located at the end of Renyolds Street.
